I'm Leah, a life coach who empowers courageous and determined professionals who feel lost, burned out and unfulfilled in their life and career to rediscover themselves and create the freedom to live their life purpose.
I coach and guide people who have inquisitive minds and want to learn more about themselves so they can live the life they've always wanted. I help people truly reflect and understand what’s holding them back from being their authentic self and living fully.
I provide accountability, support, and inspiration. I guide people who may feel stuck through setting inspirational goals and creating actionable plans to achieve those goals.
How I got here:
My astrological sign is Pisces represented by the two fish swimming in opposite directions. This couldn’t be more appropriate for me! I’m the first born child which means I’ve always been quite the rule follower and extremely responsible. My family has teased that when I was 13, I was really 30. From an early age, I was taking care of myself and fairly independent; there was always an internal voice pressuring me to do what I was supposed to do. Counter all this with my Pisces traits of being an imaginative dreamer and you get an interesting mix where what I ought to do always won out over what my heart wanted to do.
Growing up in a tiny town I always felt that there was something more for me. While a lot of the people I grew up with wanted to stay in the area it was never a question for me that I wanted to get out. That's as far as my thinking went though. I knew I didn't want the traditional track of college, job, marriage, kids, retirement but I seemed to be falling into that path and I didn’t know how to truly learn about me and what I really wanted.
I graduated from college and got a great job where I was steadily moving up the ranks. I should've been happy and fulfilled but I wasn't. I always had a feeling that there was something more or different for me.
During this time in my 20s and early 30s, my identity was my job and I always felt pressure at work to fit the mold and be someone I’m not. I’d hear from others that I needed to be more extroverted or assertive or whatever else it was they thought I should be. I looked for validation outside myself and when I couldn’t be who they wanted me to be, I started to suffer from anxiety and depression. I desperately needed a change but I didn’t know how to make it happen.
I distinctly remember one of the first vacations I took with my now husband. We had an amazing meal on the beach and drinks and I ended up breaking down and having a crying fit saying because the vacation made me realize that I wasn't doing what I wanted with my life. This isn’t the life I envisioned. This theme lived on for years. I didn't know what to do to change these feelings, I only knew this wasn't the life I wanted for myself.
I'd talk about it to others but when they'd tell me that most people didn't love their jobs and it was unrealistic for me to expect to love mine, I just couldn't accept that idea. I KNEW this wasn't it for me and that I wanted to feel more fulfilled and to help people.
My Big Revelation
Surprise, there wasn’t really a big revelation! I didn’t have that lightning strike of a moment when I’d had enough and everything started to change. A shift started to happen for me when I started listening to more Tim Ferriss’ podcasts and reading his books which led me to other lifestyle design people like Marie Forleo and Chris Guillebeau.
This is when I finally took the first steps to start my own business and started to really dig into who I was, who I wanted to be and how I wanted to contribute to the world. Once I hired a life coach, everything really started to click because I had someone helping me learn who I was. I finally had hope and confidence and I was moving forward.
I grew up in the upper Midwest area of the United States. Growing up, my dad instilled in me a love of the outdoors and we spent a lot of time exploring, camping, and hiking. Like most young people, I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with my life, so I bounced around universities and majors starting with aviation computer science and ending up with a major in marketing. From there, I worked at the corporate offices of a large retailer for nearly 17 years in a wide variety of roles, contracted for a few years and then spent some time in the IT department of a manufacturing firm before finally finding life coaching.
In 2013 I married my amazing husband, Jon. We live with my step-son, Connor, and our two crazy dogs, Paco and Emma.
I love traveling, the ocean, kayaking, hiking, being outdoors, gardening, reading and playing with our dogs. I'm also a voracious learner and at any given moment I'm reading or listening to multiple books and constantly listening to podcasts. Favorites include everything by Tim Ferriss, Oprah's Master Class and Super Soul Conversations, Marie Forleo and Big Questions with Cal Fussman.
